Celebrating #SGinHarmony

On 21 July 1964, communal riots broke out between Malays and Chinese during a Muslim procession celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, resulting in 36 people killed and more than 500 injured. Since 1998, 21 July has been dedicated as Racial Harmony Day in Singapore, the day that we reflect on the topic of race and religion, and celebrate differences that strengthen rather than divide us.
To celebrate #SGinHarmony, the Racial and Religious Harmony Circle (or Harmony Circle in short) and its partners have put up exciting activities in July to celebrate Singapore’s multiculturalism and racial harmony.
Get to experience quiet aspects of different religions through meditations led by Christian and Buddhist monks or nuns, and enjoy live and interactive musical performances by different cultural groups at the “Soundscapes of Religions in Singapore”.
Also check out the “Let’s Embrace – Celebrating Harmony” and “Heartlands in Harmony” events at Our Tampines Hub where visitors could enjoy multicultural performances as well as activities such as a guided heritage trail, immersive storytelling sessions, cultural cooking workshops or community mural painting.
Fancy going on a delectable journey of flavours across cultures? The “Racial Harmony Food Fiesta & Carnival” at Bishan Community Club celebrates diversity through food where visitors could enjoy cooking demonstrations and cuisines from different cultures.
