Chingay Parade
The Chingay Parade in Singapore is a vibrant tapestry of the nation's rich multicultural heritage and evolving traditions. Initiated in 1973 by our founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Chingay was originally a street parade celebrating the Chinese New Year. It was started to fill the void left by the ban on firecrackers in 1972. Over the years, it has blossomed into Asia's largest street performance and float parade.
For performers who breathe life into the parade, they will cherish the lasting bonds formed with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Meanwhile, audiences will fondly remember the spectacle of Chingay as a melting pot of traditions and stories, where every float tells a tale. We share some of your favourite memories in this post!
