Thomson East Coast Line
The planning and development of our Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) lines and stations involve various factors, including transportation demand, population density, urban development plans, and geographic considerations. Our MRT lines and stations are often strategically located to support planned urban growth areas, while minimising disruption to existing infrastructure and maximising accessibility to key destinations.
On 23 June 2024, seven new Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) MRT stations will commence passenger service. The TEL is an important addition to Singapore's MRT network, enhancing connectivity between the northern and eastern parts of the island. Spanning 10.8km, the fourth stage of the TEL (TEL 4) comprises Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap and Bayshore.
With the launch of TEL 4, around 235,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk from an existing TEL station (Woodlands North to Bayshore). Commuters can expect travel time savings of up to 50% when using TEL. For example, a Marine Parade resident travelling to Shenton Way will take 20 minutes via TEL compared to the current 40 minutes by bus and train.
Excited about the new stations? Commuters can preview and travel for free along the seven new TEL4 stations during the opening event on 21 June 2024, from 10am to 9pm. It's a great opportunity for us to familiarise ourselves with the new stations and the route ahead of the public opening on 23 June. A series of activities will also be held to mark the opening of the newest stage of the TEL.
Take a ride on the #EastSideVibe and experience the added convenience that the TEL brings to everyone. 🤗
